ETMC Tyler Volunteers award college scholarships

December 20, 2017

Seven East Texas college students have been awarded scholarships by the ETMC Tyler Volunteers.

The scholarship recipients are students attending the University of Texas at Tyler or Tyler Junior College, working towards healthcare careers, who volunteer at ETMC Tyler. Recipients are:  Samantha Burch, Bubacarr Ceesay, Erin Flowers, Jeannie Nghiem, Tanvir Rashid, Johnathan Rhoads and Shelby Rotenberry.

To be eligible for consideration, each student had to complete 48 hours of volunteer service, meet certain educational requirements, submit a written application and participate in an interview with members of the ETMC Tyler Volunteers Leadership Council.

“Our college students comprise 30 percent of our volunteer team,” said Joyce Brown, director of volunteer resources at ETMC Tyler.  “They bring energy and enthusiasm to the hospital, while learning new skills. These students represent our future nurses and physicians. The chance to volunteer adds to their healthcare knowledge and provides them with references for future opportunities.”
