The ETMC Olympic Center at Tyler earns medical fitness facility certification

December 19, 2017

The ETMC Olympic Center at Tyler is the first fitness facility in Texas to achieve certification by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA), the country’s leading organization dedicated solely to medically integrated wellness and fitness facilities.

“Achieving this certification is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team members since we opened in 1995,” said Jeramie Hinojosa, director of the ETMC Olympic Centers. “It also demonstrates how our system leadership has and continues to recognize the role of exercise and physical activity in disease prevention and treatment.”

The voluntary certification involved an in-depth review of the facility’s adherence to a set of 200 prescribed standards and guidelines. The certification process ensures facilities provide a high level of quality and safety in the programs and services delivered.

“The ETMC Olympic Center sets itself apart from other facilities in a number of ways, including having certified fitness staff available at all times, written emergency response policies and procedures, medical fitness programs that target specific disease states and quality management processes to enhance the member experience and outcomes.  We also have regular physician oversight for our programs, so other physicians can feel safe when referring their patients to our facility and programs.”

“With the implementation of the Accountable Care Act and its impact on healthcare systems beginning to be realized, the industry is looking for better ways to provide coordinated services for the communities they serve,” said Robert Boone, president and CEO of the MFA. “As the incidence of chronic disease continues to rise, the need for more medically supervised outcomes and accountability based Exercise as Medicine programs has never been more relevant in our industry than today. It is clear that moving towards a population health prevention model of care, with all its necessary components and guidelines, is a herculean task. The ETMC Olympic Center at Tyler has taken an important step towards filling a gap in the current care delivery model.”

The MFA began certifying centers in 2007 and the ETMC Olympic Center in Tyler is the 49th to achieve this designation in the United States.
