The goal of outpatient physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) at the ETMC Olympic Center at Jacksonville is to make daily tasks and activities easier to perform. These therapies may be prescribed by your doctor to improve mobility, strength, stamina, flexibility and coordination after surgery, injury or illness. Chronic health issues such as arthritis, cancer, cardiopulmonary diseases or neurological conditions also can be improved with PT and/or OT.
PT may be right for you if you have difficulty with walking, getting in and out of bed or using steps. It nearly always includes an exercise program that is customized to your specific needs, and may be combined with other treatments.
OT helps restore upper extremity function so you can return to your normal work, home and social activities. An occupational therapist will create a plan to help you improve function, simplify tasks and increase independence. He or she also will provide instruction on the use of adaptive, orthotic and prosthetic devices if needed.
