ETMC Cancer Institute in Tyler

The care you need, close to home

The ETMC Cancer Institute in Tyler is part of our flagship healthcare facility that helps patients from across the region get the care they need without traveling far from home. Opened in 1986, the 15,875-square-foot facility employs a full clinical staff of cancer treatment experts and is home to some of the industry’s most state-of-the-art technology – including the Philips Brilliance 64-slice CT scanner, TrueBeam STx and stereotactic radiosurgery via CyberKnife – to help aid in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer.

Along with this sophisticated technology, the ETMC Cancer Institute in Tyler hosts weekly multidisciplinary tumor conferences with a group of radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, primary care physicians, pathologists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, urologists and other specialists who meet to analyze and discuss each patient’s case.

A number of clinical trials are also being conducted at this facility at all times. Our detailed cancer registry is a case-specific database with detailed information about each patient’s type of cancer, which helps us improve quality through retrospectively analyzing patterns and trends in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Support services

A number of support services, such as pastoral care, nutritional guidance and biweekly support groups, are also offered at the ETMC Cancer Institute in Tyler to provide information and offer reassurance to those whose lives have been touched by cancer. These services give patients and families the opportunity to discuss their experiences while providing an informal, relaxed setting that promotes sharing to further the healing process. Some services are geared toward specific types of cancer, such as breast cancer, while others are broader in scope.
