ETMC childbirth preparation classes


Preparing for a new baby can often feel overwhelming with doctor appointments, baby books, trips to the baby store and more. At ETMC we want to help parents become more confident throughout a pregnancy so the entire process is exciting and joyful rather than confusing or stressful. To alleviate apprehension and answer questions, we’ve put together convenient classes that we hope help you breathe a little easier and feel more prepared during your pregnancy.

The Weekender

The Weekender class was created to put future parents at ease and give you access to highly specialized and experienced resources. During the class, participants will go through various preparation details, including

  • labor preparation
  • cesarean-section deliveries
  • pain management
  • post-partum and newborn care

We’ll also give you a tour of the ETMC Family Birthplace in Tyler so you’re familiar with our industry-leading facilities and amenities as well as the high value we put on continuity of care and patient satisfaction. Overall, our goal is to make you feel as prepared and comfortable as possible before your new arrival.

Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and should bring a pillow to class.

When: One Saturday per month from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; please call 903-535-6911 for schedule

Where: ETMC Pavilion Conference Center atrium, 801 Clinic Drive, Tyler, Texas

Cost: $50 if delivering at ETMC, $60 if not delivering at ETMC (same cost for single participants or couples)

Breast-feeding class

The ETMC Family Birthplace breast-feeding class covers how to get started with breast-feeding and various techniques. Learn the basics and more from experienced professionals, nurses and certified lactation consultants, including

  • benefits of breast-feeding
  • latch techniques
  • common challenges and how to overcome them
  • pumping options
  • helpful breast-feeding accessories
  • legal questions (breast-feeding in public, pumping at work, breast pump insurance coverage, etc.)

When: One Monday per month from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.; please call 903-535-6911 for schedule
