Outdoor Activities
Tyler and East Texas are home to a myriad of pristine freshwater lakes. Offering fishing, boating, skiing and even freshwater SCUBA opportunities, see why so many families feel right at home in the water.

In addition, hiking, biking, camping and hunting enthusiasts will love the diverse settings every season brings.

Cultural and Educational Opportunities
In Tyler, the University of Texas at Tyler's Cowan Center hosts a Broadway Series each year bringing professional musicals and dramas right to your own backyard.

Museums include the Discovery Science Museum, the Smith County Historical Museum and the celebrated Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in nearby Carthage.

Both UT Tyler and Tyler Junior College offer a host of informal learning classes and lecture series bringing authors, speakers from industry and science as well as artists together for evenings that will keep your mind and heart recharged.

While most know Tyler and the region for our beloved and coveted Rose Festival in the fall, our Azalea Trail is ready to take your breath away each spring.

Jacksonville's Tomato Fest is an over-the-top celebration of summer's prized bounty.

Each summer also brings the renowned Texas Shakespeare Festival in Kilgore - a time warp romp blending Renaissance fair fun with the timeless works of the world's greatest playwright.

And perhaps no party blends East Texas culture, music, food, art and spirits better than the East Texas Yamboree in Gilmer - one of Texas' longest-running celebrations with attendance of well over 100,000 people. We encourage you to explore these and the many other festivals, jams and talents being celebrated by the many distinctive communities that make up the East Texas Region.

Nearby Cities
Just a 90-mile drive in any direction from Tyler, a major city awaits. To the north, Dallas. The south, Houston. And to the east, Shreveport, Louisiana. They're nice places to visit, but for us, East Texas is home!
