Inpatient rehabilitation beds and services 24 hours a day, seven days a week for adults with physical and/or cognitive impairments that limit activities and reduce participation in life situations. Services provided by the hospital include Rehabilitation Medicine and Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy and Nutrition Services. Contracted services available on the shared ETMC Tyler campus include Radiology, Laboratory, Food Services, Oncology, Dialysis and Pastoral Care.
Our Center is accredited by The Joint Commission and CARF International for Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Services. CARF International reviews a facility's organizational processes and adherence to rigorous quality standards. Ongoing quality improvement measures are also an integral part of the accreditation process.
Our patients are referred by their physicians usually as a next step after hospitalization for illness or injury that leaves them with deficits in mobility, activities of daily living and or cognition. In 2012, ETMC treated 1022 adult rehabilitation patients who ranged in age from young adult to geriatric. The average length of stay was about 13 days. Over 72% of patients were able to go home from the Rehabilitation Hospital and 92% of those patients maintained or improved function after discharge.
Our patients are medically stable enough to tolerate a minimum of three hours of rehabilitation therapy at least 5 days per week. There is an expectation that self care abilities will improve or that a caregiver will be taught to perform necessary care. Payment sources include Medicare, Worker’s Compensation plans, the Texas Department of Assistive Rehabilitation Services (DARS), and various commercial insurances as determined by the patient’s coverage.
