As a high school student in Tyler, Katie Root, MD, volunteered at ETMC. “Most of us who go into medicine are driven to help others. We have a desire to better the community.”
Today Dr. Root is an internal medicine physician with the organization. “This is what I’ve been striving for. ETMC has done a lot of good for East Texas, and that’s part of what drew me here.”
Dr. Root chose internal medicine because of the relationships it allows her to build with her adult patients. “With time you develop a partnership that encourages patients to take an active role in their care, which leads to better health and more successful outcomes.”
