Internal medicine specialist Karen Wies, M.D., begins caring for patients by listening. “I spend a long first visit with patients. Once I know their side of the story and what their main concern is, then I can focus on what I need to do.”
Dr. Wies is a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force, where she was chief of staff at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, the Air Force’s largest hospital. Her goal is a partnership with her patients: “I want my patients to feel positive about their health care, so that they are proactive and involved in their treatment plan.”
