J. Michael Orms, MD, FAAFP, is more than a typical primary care physician. His most recent professional accomplishment is board certification in hospice and palliative medicine, which focuses on care for patients with serious and life-threatening conditions. Dr. Orms is also a board-certified family medicine physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
“This gives me the ability to care for people of all ages and conditions. It also equips me to be able to practice in a small community where patients are seeking one doctor to care for their entire family.”
Dr. Orms’ unique path has added to his medical skills. While serving three years in a remote village north of the Arctic Circle, he became the first family medicine physician in Alaska to perform remote surgical procedures with the assistance of a surgeon via a two-way live satellite connection. As a result he is credited with helping two patients who otherwise wouldn’t have had access to lifesaving surgery.
Today Dr. Orms’ priority is spending quality time with his patients. “People want to know that their doctor truly listens to what they say and shows a genuine concern for them, so I take my time with each patient evaluation.”
