February 9, 2017

Over 200 women attended the ETMC Cardiovascular Institute “Matters from the Heart: A Woman’s Journey,” a luncheon addressing women’s heart health, held on Feb. 9, at the Crosswalk Conference Center, on the campus of Green Acres Baptist Church.

The event featured keynote speaker Jean McSweeney, PhD, RN, a specialist in women’s cardiology and co-director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Nursing PhD program.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women,” said Dianne Adelfio, vice president of the ETMC Cardiovascular Institute. “Education, prevention and knowing the warning signs can help lower the risk for heart attack and/or stroke. ETMC is committed to helping women in East Texas have healthy hearts.”

Tyler Junior College professor Mary Adams, a heart patient, also shared her journey of surviving a heart attack in her 40s and open heart surgery in her 70s.
