  •     Celiac disease
  •     Colon cancer
  •     Crohn’s disease
  •     Diverticulosis and diverticulitis
  •     Other conditions related to the digestive system

With screenings, often physicians may find illnesses or conditions before symptoms become apparent. Early detection is often an important factor in treating or curing a problem.

Talk to your doctor about screenings that are appropriate for your age and gender.

Catching colon cancer early

One important screening procedure the digestive disease center is a screening colonoscopy.

Screening is recommended for patients who have:

  •     Symptoms such as blood in the stool
  •     Rectal bleeding
  •     Change in bowel habits or lower abdominal cramping
  •     You have a family history of colon cancer and you are over 40
  •     You are over age 50 (even without symptoms)

The American College of Gastroenterology has concluded that colonoscopy is the preferred and most reliable test for colorectal cancer screening.

The staff includes board-certified gastroenterologists and nationally certified gastroenterology nurses.
