The ETMC difference

Providing heart and vascular care that’s first in East Texas

Our commitment to heart care began more than 20 years ago with a mission to provide the people of East Texas with the most advanced cardiovascular services, close to home.

This mission has guided everything from the number of steps between our cath lab, surgical suites and cardiac ICU at the ETMC Cardiovascular Institute, to the number of emergency ambulances and helicopters in our system, to the number of minutes it takes to open the blocked artery of an East Texan – whether that process begins in Cedar Creek Lake, Carthage, Pittsburg or Trinity.

Leading the way in heart care programs

  • Increasing safety and efficiency at the region’s first true heart hospital, built in 1993 with design input from cardiovascular specialists
  • Caring for more cardiac bypass, vascular surgery, heart attack, stroke and aortic aneurysm patients than anyone else in East Texas
  • Providing a comprehensive heart and vascular program staffed by physicians who are all fellowship-trained and board-certified
  • Investing in specialized training for all cardiovascular medical professionals
  • Focusing on prevention with the goal of stopping heart disease before it starts
  • Detecting heart and vascular disease at the earliest possible stage with affordable programs like MyHeart First and calcium scoring
  • Exceeding national standards for door-to-treatment time during heart attack
  • Offering access to advanced therapies and devices through a nationally recognized cardiovascular research program
  • Operating one of the nation’s largest rural emergency medical systems with advanced cardiac monitoring in all units
  • Delivering the highest level of emergency care at the only Level I trauma center in East Texas
  • Rebuilding lives through the region’s largest cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program

“Cardiology here is a very broad and sophisticated program. We have so many different ways to treat patients such a variety of expertise that we’re able to tailor the right therapy to the right patient at the right time for the most effective treatment.”

– Cardiologist Stephen Sigal, MD, FACC, FAHA
