Post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD refers to a collection of debilitating symptoms that sometimes occur after a traumatic or life-threatening event.
Survivors often face symptoms such as insomnia, avoidance or reminders of the trauma and hypervigilance. When symptoms linger for months or years, many turn to alcohol and drugs to cope with the negative feelings.
At our next KnowledgeFirst forum, psychiatrist and veteran Dr. Daniel Williams of the ETMC Behavioral Health Center will provide an overview of the symptoms and treatment of PTSD and its related complications.
