The ETMC Tyler Kidney Transplant Center performed one transplant Monday and three on Tuesday last week for four East Texas patients.
Federico Sanchez, 40, Palestine; Lance House, 42, Palestine; Gerri Thomas, 52, Yantis and Angela Robertson, 45, Lufkin, all received a new kidney this week from a deceased donor. All four are doing well. All were on the ETMC Tyler kidney transplant waiting list. Currently 159 patients are on the ETMC list and 84,000 are on the national waiting list. Since the program began in 1987, ETMC has completed 552 kidney transplants.
Dr. Steven Potter joined ETMC Tyler as the kidney transplant surgeon and program director in 2008. He came to ETMC after serving as surgical director of kidney transplantation at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. “Kidney transplantation is the optimal therapy for renal failure, and it’s a privilege to be able to offer patients in East Texas the same state-of-the-art, quality care available at the best institutions in the country.”
