The ETMC Regional Trauma System has also established a fleet of three ETMC Air 1 emergency helicopters to serve East Texans. Air 1 is the first air medical service to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport Services.
ETMC Air 1 is an important component of ETMC’s commitment to excellent patient care because we recognize every second counts when a patient has been injured or is suffering from a life-threatening medical condition.
Our fleet is composed of three aircraft, including the powerful EC-135 helicopter and the BO-105. These helicopters are strategically located throughout East Texas to provide fast access to patients in need of urgent transport. All aircraft are teamed with a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic and are in service 24 hours a day.
ETMC Air 1 flies from Oklahoma to Houston and from Shreveport to Dallas. Our helicopter program is an integral part of ETMC’s trauma system, complementing our trauma and stroke programs. ETMC Air 1 provides hospital-to-hospital transports as well as responding directly to scene calls, transporting patients quickly from the point of primary care to the hospital where specialized treatment can be provided.
ETMC Air 1 is proud of our excellent safety record. Our air ambulances are provided by Metro Aviation, Inc., a leader in the helicopter ambulance industry and pioneer in helicopter safety.
