Bariatric Center of Excellence Seal
ETMC Athens, Tyler, Crockett, Henderson, Jacksonville, Carthage, Quitman, the ETMC Rehabilitation Center and the ETMC Specialty Hospital are accredited by the Joint Commission and have earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval. ETMC Tyler has been recognized by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation as a center of excellence for bariatric surgery, and Dr. Babineau has been recognized as a bariatric surgeon of excellence.
ETMC Regional Healthcare System has been named to the 2007 Most Wired list. The list measures the nation’s healthcare systems on their use of information technology in support of patient care, safety and quality, customer service, disaster readiness, business processes and workforce management.
Chest Pain Seal
The Chest Pain Center at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
Commission on Cancer
The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted its three-year approval with commendation to the cancer program at the East Texas Medical Center Cancer Institute. Established in 1922 by the ACoS, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to reducing the morbidity and mortality of cancer through education, standard-setting, and monitoring the quality of cancer care.
The ETMC Tyler Wound Healing Center has achieved “A Level One Reaccreditation with Distinction” as a clinical hyperbaric medicine facility. The evaluation focused on the center’s use of hyperbaric oxygen chambers in the treatment of wound healing. With over 600 facilities nationwide only 75 are accredited.
The ETMC Athens vascular lab is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission For the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories. The process begins with a comprehensive self-evaluation by laboratory staff. Completion of the application for accreditation requires information on all aspects of laboratory operation as well as the submission of actual case studies for review. After a laboratory submits the application to the ICAVL, the application undergoes a confidential peer-review by the ICAVL’s trained reviewers, including physicians, technologists, and sonographers, before a final decision is made by the Board of Directors.
College of American Pathologists
ETMC Tyler and ETMC Athens have labs that are accredited by the College of American Pathologists. These labs are among more than 6,000 CAP-accredited labs nationwide. Inspectors examine the lab’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff’s qualifications, the equipment, facilities, safety programs and records and overall management. This stringent inspection program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for the lab’s patients.
American Academy of Sleep Disorders
The ETMC Sleep Disorders Center in Tyler has been accredited for five years by the American Adademy of Sleep Medicine. ETMC was recognized for meeting or exceeding all standards of the AASM
ETMC Tyler’s Echocardiography Laboratory has been granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems
ETMC’s Air 1 emergency helicopter program is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). CAMTS recognizes Air 1’s successful compliance with nationally established medical transport standards.
Gold Seal Stroke Program
ETMC Tyler has earned the Joint Commission’s Certificate of Distinction for Primary Stroke Centers that recognizes centers that make exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes for stroke care. Achievement of certification signifies that the services a hospital provides have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes.
ETMC EMS was CAAS accredited in February, 2010. CAAS accreditation signifies that our service has met the “gold standard” determined by the ambulance industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services provider. These standards often exceed those established by state or local regulation. The CAAS standards are designed to increase operational efficiency and clinical quality, while decreasing risk and liability to the organization. The process includes a comprehensive self-assessment and an independent external review of the EMS organization.
In April, 2012, The National Academies of Emergency Dispatch awarded ETMC EMS accreditation as an Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence for their comprehensive implementation and compliance with the Medical Dispatch System (MPDS) and the associated “20 points of Excellence.” The MPDS is the world’s most widely-used 911-type pre-arrival instruction and dispatch-life support protocol system. Accreditation demands careful MPDS compliance and certification for all emergency call-takers and medical dispatchers. this accomplishment demonstrates that ETMC EMS is compliant with all international practice standards for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).
