The East Texas Medical Center Sleep Disorders Center in Tyler
recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy
of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for a period of five years for meeting or
exceeding all standards by AASM.
"The accreditation process involved a detailed inspection
of our facility, staff, testing procedures and training," said Dr.
David Jones, medical director of the sleep lab. "We are very
pleased to receive this recognition again.
In order to become accredited by the American Academy of Sleep
Medicine, sleep centers must comply with the AASM Standards for
Accreditation, the gold standard for patient care in the sleep
medicine field. These requirements incorporate the latest advances
in sleep medicine and guarantee quality care to meet the needs of
patients and referring physicians.
AASM Accreditation of Sleep Disorders Centers is a voluntary
process for the assessment of sleep programs. By achieving
accreditation, a sleep center demonstrates a commitment to the
provision of quality diagnostic services.
The AASM currently accredits more than 2,500 sleep medicine centers
across the country. The AASM is a professional medical society for
clinicians, researchers, and other healthcare providers in the
field of sleep medicine. The AASM is dedicated to setting
standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine heath care,
education and research.
