The award honors the life and commitment of Sue Malone, who served as a nurse at Henderson Memorial Hospital and ETMC Henderson for 35 years. Well-respected by her colleagues and her patients, she was known as a committed nurse, role model and mentor and for her honesty, sincerity and reliability. Recipients of the award are chosen based on how well they exemplify these characteristics, both professionally and personally. This is the fifth year the award has been presented.

Moake has worked at the hospital for nearly 27 years. She began her career at Henderson Memorial Hospital, now ETMC Henderson, in 1986 working on the medical-surgical unit and cross trained to work in the emergency department. In 1988 she went to work in the operating room and in 1992 became house supervisor. From 1995 to 2012, she served as nurse manager of the med-surg unit. In October 2012, she made the decision to return to the operating room.

"Sarah has continued to be a leader on this unit," said Deborah Jackson, RN, MSN, AOCNS, surgical director at ETMC Henderson, in her nomination letter. "She is continually positive and engaging, anticipates the needs of the unit and others and is already a 'go-to' person. She is a positive role model for all the other nurses in this hospital with her work ethic and positive attitude."

"Sarah Moake leads by example," said Miguel Casas, RN, MSN, MBA, chief nursing officer at ETMC Henderson. "She is dedicated to providing the highest quality care in a personal manner and to creating a positive atmosphere for her fellow team members. She is an excellent representative of ETMC Henderson and the nursing profession."
