Dr. Steven Potter, ETMC Tyler kidney transplant surgeon and
program director, has been named secretary-treasurer for the Texas
Transplantation Society for a three-year term.
The Texas Transplantation Society is a professional association
founded in 1987 to facilitate transplantation within the state. The
mission is to advance transplantation and organ donation in Texas
through education and advocacy with a unified and authoritative
voice. The society is active with the legislature and sponsors
"Donate Life Day."
"I am honored to be selected to this state board so we can continue
our mission to educate the public about the benefits of kidney
transplantation, organ donation and living donors," Dr. Potter
said.
Since the program began in 1987, ETMC has completed 607 kidney
transplants.
Currently more than 99,000 Americans are on the national waiting
list for a kidney donation.
