Henderson, Texas - Area residents of all ages are invited to attend a community celebration and dedication of the "new" East Texas Medical Center Henderson, Sunday, July 22, from 1 to 3 p.m.
"We are inviting the public to join us as we celebrate the completion of the hospital renovation project - a major step in fostering ETMC's goal of providing the highest quality healthcare to the people of Henderson and Rusk County," said Mark Leitner, administrator of ETMC Henderson.
Sunday's event will feature remarks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m., including a proclamation from Mayor John W. "Buzz" Fullen announcing July 22 as ETMC Day in Henderson. Following the dedication, tours will be available of the beautiful and state-of-the-art new emergency department, grand lobby and clinic areas, with ETMC team members, physicians and volunteers assisting guests. In addition, hospital board members will be recognized during the event, along with others who have played a role in the development of ETMC Henderson.
There will be activities for children in the pediatrics clinic plus tours of ETMC's Air 1 helicopter. Moms-to-be are invited to a "baby shower" at The BirthPlace at ETMC Henderson, which will include special treats and a drawing for a special basket of baby gifts.
Healthcare providers from the ETMC First Physicians family health and women's health clinics will be on hand to meet guests, including two new physicians: Dr. Kwabena Agyapong Osman, pediatrician, and Dr. Lynne Haygood-Kane, OB-GYN, who are joining the medical staff this summer.
Musical groups from the community have been invited to provide entertainment throughout the afternoon and refreshments will be served.
"This celebration represents the partnership between ETMC and the community that has resulted in a tremendous 'new' hospital that serves as a safety net for our entire county," noted Leitner. "In addition to advancing health services, ETMC Henderson is vital to the economic development of Henderson and Rusk County, as it supplies jobs and helps attract new business and residents. It will be a wonderful day that reflects our community's spirit."
